Chess Garden
A gentle first chess game for children and grown-ups. Learn five real opening moves, explore how every piece moves, then switch to a complete pressure-free game.
What children learn
The five-step lesson introduces turns, pawn movement, the knight’s L-shaped hop, central development, and the bishop’s diagonal path through one legal opening sequence.
Guidance without punishment
Every legal destination sparkles. During the lesson, a valid alternative move gets a friendly explanation and the board waits for the starred target instead of changing the position.
Real chess rules
Free play enforces legal turns and moves, including check, checkmate, castling, en passant, promotion, and draw detection.
Built for playing together
The interface has no timer or score. Undo, board flipping, optional sound, and short grown-up prompts keep the focus on curiosity rather than winning quickly.
Keyboard and screen-reader support
Use the arrow keys to move around the board and Enter or Space to choose a square. Game-mode state, live move feedback, piece tabs, end-game results, and celebration dialogs are exposed to assistive technology.
